Making a House a Home

A before and after home transformation. Suzie Wells of Wells | Simpson, showcases how one client’s vision turns into a reality.

While our clients were originally looking to downsize, the quick sale of their previous home forced them to look at the market and their needs in a different way.  Their new home not only fulfilled their desire to downsize, it  also became a labor of love!  Our clients transformed this tired, outdated home into a chic & stylish space with a happy vibe throughout.  The exterior was given a facelift with freshly painted linen brick, welcoming front doors with updated covered entry, shutters, roof, traditional  coach lights and dramatic new foliage.  The interior front foyer was energized with a crisply painted bannister & smashing black and white wool carpeting – setting the color tone for the rest of the home!  While black and white seems to be a common palette throughout the first floor, our client’s favorite color is surely GREEN –  just spectacular when combined with black and white!  Her love for everything green carried over into her love for lacquered furniture, bringing vibrant color and renewed life to old pieces of furniture.  If one is not wowed enough at this point, the true eye candy is yet to come in the rear of the home – a completely transformed kitchen, family and laundry room!  Walls and lower level stairs were removed allowing our clients a fabulous new layout for the heart of the home.  The kitchen, bar and laundry room were flanked with fabulous Amish cabinetry providing a true custom product down to the very detail, along with Negresco suede countertops for a simple yet sophisticated look.  The black and white kitchen is embellished with gold grecian hardware, a unique trio of over-island lanterns, crystal dining chandeliers and our all time favorite detail in the space – the cabinet doors flanking the entrance to the living room.  The door panels are embellished with ornate gold grills handcrafted in London by none other than the manufacturer of Rolls Royce car grills…..a true piece of art!  The window filled family room (and kitchen) are graced with gorgeous dark hardwoods and a charming bar for entertaining – a cozy and relaxing space for entertaining.  This labor of love truly transformed this house into a home!
